Festival off : the wildlife film training instituteIFFCAM : FRANCOPHONE INSTITUTE OF MENIGOUTE FOR TRAINING IN ANIMAL DOCUMENTARY
Dedicated to nature and animal documentary, IFFCAM was created in the wake of the International ornithological Documentary Festival of Ménigoute where, for more than 20 years, animal documentary found a privileged promotional place. The County Council of the department of Deux-Sèvres supports the IFFCAM project and bought a property of 70 hectares situated at La Grimaudière in Coutières, a small country village near Ménigoute. The natural area is at the students' disposal for their training in the different techniques in the making of animal documentary.
The buildings were equipped according to the needs of animal documentary training : class rooms, editing studios, conference room and projection room. Restored to a high level of environmental quality, the site work started in 2005 and ended in september 2006.
University Diploma in techniques and methods in the making of animal documentary movie
The training courses that IFFCAM proposes are part of the Creative Documentary section of the University of Poitiers, UFR Human sciences and arts. The creative documentary section is based on two separate sites; sound and video creation take place in Angoulême, and animal and nature documentary in Coutières near Ménigoute.
Master 2 director of animal documentary
The training is mainly performed by professional technicians sharing their theoretical and technical
knowledge with the students. Emphasis is put on pedagogy as each student has to draft and direct a short documentary in order to take the exam.
These diplomas were the first university qualifications in this field. The first D.U. class took place in 2004 and the first MASTER class in 2005.
D.U. Animal photography and nature report
Following the experimentation of the documentary training courses and at the professionals' request, IFFCAM proposes a new University Diploma in animal photography and nature report. Different modules cover successively the conditions of a nature report composition, centring, aesthetic quality, technical evolutions and writing.
